About the press

Tailor’s End Press is the imprint of John Orbell, set up in 2019 to publish the books he writes. When this website launched in November 2026, it had published four titles.

John is a professional historian and business archivist. He studied history and economics at university in the 1970s, and his interests, and his publications, are primarily in economic and business history. Now retired from regular work, he lives and writes in Suffolk.

He also conceived and developed the free online database Business History Explorer, which by late 2026 held details of over 60,000 publications. Ownership passed to the Business Archives Council in 2023, but John continues to manage it on their behalf.
